THE WOUNDED SELF
THE EMPTY MIRROR, Exploring Maternal Narcissism

This workshop focuses on healing the daughters of maternal narcissism. Whilst boys and girls experience emotional disruptions when a narcissistic father or mother raises them, the mother-daughter dynamic is distinctive. The daughter of a narcissistic mother faces unique struggles that her brothers don’t share.

Based on the work of Stephen Johnson and Karyl McBride we will explore how to:
  • Understand the developmental origins of narcissistic injury
  • Explore the 9 traits of a narcissistic personality and how they present themselves in the mother-daughter dynamic
  • The 6 faces of maternal narcissism within the engulfing-ignoring spectrum
  • The 10 stingers – 10 mother-daughter dynamics associated with maternal narcissism
  • Where is Daddy – and what about the brothers?
  • Image is everything
  • How a narcissistic style of mothering affects the daughters life:
    • The high achieving daughter
    • The self-sabotaging daughter
    • Romantic Fallout
    • A Recovery Model to help daughters heal through therapy and self help
