The first thing we must understand in life is our mother. Recognising her face, her expressions, the sound of her voice, and the meaning of her moods is essential to survival, and we do it automatically. Children with borderline mothers begin their lives with an insecure attachment to an emotionally unstable mother. Thus these children risk becoming impulsive, rage-filled, oppositional, aggressive, depressed and violent.
The term borderline means the emotional state can border between psychosis and neurosis, particularly when faced with abandonment or rejection. Adult children of borderline mothers enter therapy in order to understand themselves. They feel fragmented, depressed, and confused. They bring the therapist parts of a complex puzzle, twisting and turning pieces of themselves and their mothers to see what fits, unable to connect or separate parts that once formed a whole. This workshop will explore how we may be able to help the healing process.
This workshop will enable you to:
Understand the developmental origins of Borderline Personality Disorder
Identify the symptoms and behaviours of the borderline adaptation
Explore four basic borderline profiles as perceived through the eyes of the borderline mother’s child:
> the Waif mother,
> the Hermit mother,
> the Queen mother,
> the Witch mother
Explore case studies of each profile
Fairy Tale fathers and the role they play
